Teeth Veneers for Cosmetic Dentistry are NOT all the same and do vary by the Veneer materials and also the clinical skills used: Composite Veneers, Porcelain Veneers or Ceramic Veneers or in techniques such as ultra-thin like the Lumineers, very popular in the USA - ultimately all Tooth Veneers are designed to cosmetically improve the colour, shape or position of teeth, but one needs the expertise to know when, or when not to, use these too.

However, cosmetic tooth veneers are glued onto the outside of existing tooth substance, they are only as good as the teeth to which they are attached long-term. Sometimes Crowns rather than Veneers may be advised, should one's bite be too heavy or habits like grinding teeth at night whilst asleep etc, could fracture or displace Veneers, which could be annoying or embarrassing.

You may though wish to try cosmetic veneers first to see if tooth veneers do stay on and look good too, because one can still progress to a cosmetic ceramic crown later, for example, should one need to, but this will involve additional costs of course! Dental Tooth Veneers though CAN make a tremendous difference to one's appearance in a matter of days or weeks, when Veneers are planned and produced expertly to copy nature's features.

Cosmetic Dental Tooth Veneers in more details:

A Veneer can alter Cosmetics and a Dental Veneer simply describes a thin outer cosmetic covering for teeth.

Tooth Veneers are usually Composite, Porcelain or Ceramic, but can be made of other materials too, including Gold. Dental tooth veneers have become more popular as a relatively quick way to cosmetically improve one's smile, just like many Hollywood stars have done too.

However, it is important that this type of work is done expertly and in a way that creates enough improvement in one's smile, to justify the time, expense and the removal of sound tooth substance that even thin Veneers like lumineers may sometimes need.
Thus finding out more information about Dental tooth veneers in Leeds, the pros and cons and alternative choices (including doing nothing) is a
worthwhile exercise. One must also not have unrealistic expectations about Dental Veneers or even any Cosmetic Dentistry. Smiles are important socially and Veneers are certainly a consideration when one wishes to improve the attractiveness or healthy looks of your Smile.

Whilst one can improve a Smile that has obvious flaws or problems, this alone cannot guarantee success at job interviews or in personal relationships etc !!! This is why one needs Professional Advice on an individual basis, so you make the right decisions for you at the time.
Dr.Kilcoyne is a registered Specialist* in this type of work involving Dental tooth Veneers, Crowns, Bridges, Implants etc!

What can Dental Tooth Veneers do?

Veneers can beautify your smile by improving the position, colour and shape of one or more of your teeth. A veneer is often a thin shell of
composite, porcelain or ceramic material that's bonded to a tooth, generally covering only its front and top. This process removes less tooth
than doing a crown, but depends upon more sound tooth being there as they are not as strong as crowns.
Veneers can be used to close spaces between your teeth, lengthen small or misshapen teeth, or whiten darkened teeth. And if your teeth
are chipped or beginning to wear, veneers can protect them from damage and even restore their original looks.
In general, Veneers need to be done before there is much tooth damage or destruction, otherwise you may be better with Crowns etc.

Below is a good example of a Veneer that corrected a mis-shaped tooth on the top front left of the Smile:

Are there any Contra-indications to Veneers?

The Veneer is only as good as the tooth to which it is being bonded. If the underlying tooth is weak or compromised, this is obviously
more likely to have problems than a strong, sound underlying tooth. A heavy bite may also fracture a Veneer during use, but this may only
be discovered after "functional" chewing usage. Many patients are willing to risk this, knowing they can usually progress to a stronger
crown if needed, but not committing to crown preparations with the greater tooth removal, in the first instance. Where many filled teeth
are in a heavy bite, then it may be wiser to go for the crowns option. Lumineers are designed to be very thin veneers option, for example, but
they may be too weak in a stronger bite or through not enough tooth removal, actually be too bulky or bulbous and trap plaque etc - a personal, expert Specialist assessment by Dr.Kilcoyne would give you the info. you need.

What is involved with Dental Veneer treatment?
It usually takes two or more appointments to restore your teeth with veneers.
On the first appointment, your teeth are shaped and roughened. From impressions, precise working models are made of your teeth. It's on these models that the veneers are crafted to exactly fit your teeth.
On the second appointment, your prepared teeth are polished and cleaned. Then an adhesive is used to bond the veneers to your teeth.
A harmless high-intensity light hardens the adhesive. Once in place, veneers virtually become part of your teeth. You can
use them like you would your own teeth, because the bond is extremely strong.

The final result, as exampled by the series of 5 pictures below, is often a more beautiful and natural looking smile!

If teeth are really dark, then they can be Bleached lighter first, so any Veneers don't suffer from "Dark" shine through - this is especially
important with Lumineers or thineers, which are so thin they can't hide dark teeth or grey colours underneath !!!

How long do Porcelain Veneers last normally?

This depends on many factors, but 5 to 15 years would be reasonable if they were fitted in favourable circumstances. However, some fail
earlier and may need to be re-bonded or re-prepared as crowns instead.
This is where your initial assessment is so important!
